My journey with watercolors started just a few years ago, it was love at first sight and I knew right away this was the medium which best suited me.
What I love the most is the challenge you have to face each time, you cannot really control watercolors, you must go with the flow and let them do their work, this is both fashinating and intimidating.
There's not a particular style of painting I prefer, love portraiture, still life, love the strong tonal contrasts between light and shadows, my colors are quite bold, only at times "watery".
At times I get inspired by photos, other times I just "invent" a scene. I'm never totally satisfied by my latest painting, and always aim to do better in the next one......
I attended a workshop in Girona, Spain with Master watercolorist Alvaro Castagnet; a truly outstanding experience with a painter of great skill and charisma. What I tried to learn there was mostly his vision of painting, rather than the style: too many Castagnet clones around......
This workshop was priceless in terms of understanding the medium and the philosophy behind a painting.
Here are some pics with the Master and I, on my birthday we all had a wonderful dinner together, and he wrote a birthday card for me, which I treasure so much!!!
